Run by the fabulous Sara, this is the pub where TGG all began. A small quirky real ale & cider pub, the Plough has always attracted an inclusive crowd and has some great live music and DJ events every week. Visit the Plough Facebook Page THE HIDEOUT The Hideout pub in Castle Green Taunton launched an 'LGBTQ+ day' on Tuesday's (sometimes known as 'Tuesgay'!) early in 2022 as well as other ad-hoc events such as drag nights and hosted the Taunton Pride 2022 after party. Hideout stated they are aiming to be an LGBTQ+ safe place in town and was supported by LGBTQ+ staff and allies at the pub. Since late 2022/2023 it has gone a bit quiet on this front, and the LGBTQ+ day is not mentioned, however a few people have kept going linking up with other via the TGG community facebook chat. We will try to get an update on the situation but in the meantime please visit the Hideout Facebook page for more info or follow their Instagram account. COMPUTER WORLD 80s SYNTH POP CLUB NIGHT This is a great monthly disco night usually held at The Lawns Club on Mary St, Taunton, which a number of TGG regulars attend and has shown itself to be a safe and fun night for our community. DJ Jeremy plays some great tracks spanning the electronic/synth and alternative 80s era, with of course well known anthems mixed in. The Lawns has a very good value bar, and it's the kind of place you can wear what you want, dance how you want, be who you want and let your hair down! For more info visit the Computer World facebook page or contact [email protected]. THE BLACK HORSE pub in Taunton, run by community member Shane has a number of events including Pride fundraisers, karaoke/open mic nights, drag cabarets /quizzes and more. Please visit the Black Horse Facebook page for more info on their event nights. TGG was gratefully supported for 2021 pride by

TGG NEWS1 January 2024 - Happy New Year!
Wishing everyone the very best for 2024, to be safe, happy and enjoy life no matter what the world (and the current UK government) throws at us. Last year we celebrated 5 years of TGG and I'm really grateful for everyone that continues to make the group worthwhile, the friendships we have and the fun. A few special thanks to everyone who chipped in to help with our stall at Taunton Pride, and thanks to regular Ash who raised over £36 for us selling his handmade loom bands, plus the visitors who threw us a few quid - all these things help us with overheads such as promo materials and public liability insurance etc. Also want to particularly thank the venues that support us, including The Great Western Hotel who let us re-arrange their Lounge bar and look after us well, and big thanks to Sara at The Plough Inn pub for making us so welcome, reserving us tables, often without us even asking and for both planned and unplanned arrivals! Trying to find the right spaces to please all is tricky and we try to vary things with this in mind, but having venues that actively want us there makes so much difference. Our first meet up of 2024 will be an afternoon one on Saturday 20th January 1pm at the Great Western Hotel. We have sketched out dates for some events up to September, which will gradually be added to Facebook once we've dotted the I's, but can be viewed on the website here TGG Events Calendar. We'll fit in some additional things when we can around other commitments, and I'm determined we get some local walks in as well as 'the usual'. Thanks again to everyone who has offered moral as well as practical support - last year we/I as well as others in the community faced some really challenging and targeted 'grief', which I won't dwell on, but I'm really grateful for everyone who had our backs. Looking forward to more TGG fun, and better weather! x Stephen 9 October 2023 - 'Inclusive' pub has opened in Taunton Pleased to report a new Taunton pub based in the former Bank restaurant on Lower Middle St in Taunton is making a statement about being an 'inclusive' venue which is most welcome. Whilst not specifically LGBTQ+, here's what the new Star Inn says on their Facebook page: About The Star Inn The Star Inn is a living testament to Taunton's rich history, with its roots tracing back over a century. As we revive this iconic establishment in 2023, we are not just preserving the past; we're also reimagining its future. Our journey is a tribute to the cozy, inclusive, and welcoming spirit that defined The Star Inn's legacy, which we aim to carry forward with pride. With a nod to tradition and a commitment to modernity, we are excited to create a new chapter in The Star Inn's storied history. We invite you to join us as we honour the past while looking forward to a future filled with wine, cheese, camaraderie, and inclusivity. It's a celebration of our heritage and an embrace of the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. 🌟🏳️🌈🍷🧀🐾 20 July 2023 - TAUNTON PRIDE POSTPONED Here is the statement from Taunton Pride CIC: TAUNTON PRIDE POSTPONED DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER Following the news this morning of anticipated poor weather conditions this weekend, the Directors of Taunton Pride CIC have this afternoon made the incredibly hard decision, along with other events in Somerset, to postpone this weekend's event planned for Vivary Park and the Pride March beforehand. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly but with rain forecast for the whole of the event, and growing issues with people getting to the event due to train strikes, the team do not feel that we can bring you the event that we had planned, and designed. Our plan is to now put this weekend on hold, and work with our partners to find another date later this summer to move the event to where hopefully the weather will be what we had expected. All tickets will remain valid, and will be transferred to the new date when set. If at this point you are unable to attend a full refund can be requested. Again, we are sorry to have made this decision and hope you can understand. Our priority has always been to ensure you have the best, and safest experience possible, and with the adverse weather conditions forecast we cannot achieve this. 17 February 2023 - Taunton vigil For Brianna Ghey. The murder of 16 year old Brianna, a beautiful trans girl from Cheshire with a bright future ahead of her, has been felt strongly by many of us in the LGBTQIA+ community. Our thoughts and sympathy are with her family and friends. A vigil was organised by Taunton Pride on Friday 17th Feb to honour her memory, members of TGG, Trans Radio UK, 2BU and the wider community were in attendance. Moving words were spoken at the Market House and we walked in silence and solidarity to place candles and messages at the Rainbow pathway in Goodlands Gardens. We condemn all abuse and violence against trans or non-binary genders, this shouldn't ever happen and hate must never win. Rest in pride and peace Brianna x. If you have been effected by this tragic event please visit our support pages for who to reach out to. |
